Minister Kajiyama Holds Meeting with H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE

On January 14 (Thur.), 2021, Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), via video conference.

At the meeting, Minister Kajiyama encouraged Minister Al Jaber to support Japanese companies’ participation in energy infrastructures and other projects in Abu Dhabi. Following this, the two sides held discussions on the Japan-UAE enhanced cooperation in efforts for decarbonization, such as hydrogen, ammonia and carbon recycling. Moreover, Minister Kajiyama stated that Japan will develop comprehensive resource diplomacy, including hydrogen and ammonia, placing eyes on decarbonization in order to further enhance Japan-UAE ties. The two sides agreed that the countries will continue to closely collaborate.

After the meeting, Minister Kajiyama and CEO Al Jaber jointly witnessed a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Fuel Ammonia and Carbon Recycling, which was concluded between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and ADNOC. This MOC stipulates that ADNOC should closely collaborate with the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE, as well in advancing cooperation with Japan. METI expects that the Japan-UAE cooperation will be accelerated in the two fields through such collaboration between these related organizations.
