Minister Kajiyama Holds Meeting with H.E. Mr. Alok Sharma, COP26 President (United Kingdom) via Video Conference

On January 14 (Thur.), 2021, Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Alok Sharma, President of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) (United Kingdom), via video conference.

At the meeting, the two sides confirmed that Japan and the U.K. will further advance cooperation in such fields as climate change toward a G7 Summit Meeting and COP26, for which the U.K. will serve as a chair in 2021. Following this, Minister Kajiyama explained Japan’s efforts for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, in particular, future directions of the Green Growth Strategy compiled at the end of 2020 which aims to promote innovation as a means of bringing about a positive cycle of economic growth and the environmental protection.
