State Minister Ejima Attends Eleventh Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly

On January 19, 2021, Mr. Ejima Kiyoshi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the 11th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly via video conference.

IRENA is an international organization inaugurated to promote the widespread adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. As the highest decision-making body for IRENA, the Assembly meeting has been held every January since its first session in 2011. The 11th session being held via video conference from January 18 (Mon.) to 21 (Thur.), 2021, brought together not only ministerial and other officials from member countries and regions, but also representatives of related international organizations and private companies and other stakeholders around the world. These participants are now advancing discussions and deliberations on efforts for facilitating the utilization of renewable energy

On January 19, 2021, State Minister Ejima attended the 11th session as a representative of Japan and communicated Japan’s efforts, such as Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Green Growth Strategy, offshore wind power generation and hydrogen-related efforts.

Moreover, Mr. Washio Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Sasagawa Hiroyoshi, State Minister of the Environment, also attended the session online.
