New Body “Committee on the Green Innovation Project” under Industrial Structure Council to be Inaugurated and First Meeting to be Held

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will inaugurate a new body called the “Committee on the Green Innovation Project” under the Industrial Structure Council for the purpose of operating a Green Innovation Fund, a new approach to be developed for achievement of carbon neutrality by 2050, and the committee will hold its first meeting on February 22 (Mon.), 2021.

1. Purpose of the inauguration

Toward the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, METI decided to develop a Green Innovation Fund at the level of 2 trillion yen under the FY2020 Tertiary Supplementary Budget as part of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and to, for the coming ten years, support companies, which show specific fiscal year goals and their commitments to target efforts, in advancing their ambitious research and development.

The Committee on the Green Innovation Project, which METI will inaugurate, will aim to hold discussions on basic policies for managing and operating the fund project as a whole.

Moreover, the committee will confirm the progress in all R&D projects and make use of funds in an efficient and effective manner.

On March 4 (Thur.), 2021, the committee will hold its second meeting, enrich further discussions on the Basic Policies for the Project for the Green Innovation Fund and formulate the basic policies by the end of March 2021.
