Report on Trends in Regional Economies and Industries in December 2020 Compiled

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled a report on economic indices concerning production, private consumption, business investment and other elements for each region in order to ascertain the trends in regional economies across Japan.
Key points

Indices of industrial production (seasonally adjusted; month-on-month basis) showed a decrease in five regions, e.g., Tokai, Kinki and Kanto (composition ratio of value added: 81.5%), and an increase in three regions (the ratio: 15.0%).

Sales in the month (year-on-year basis) in six types of business in the retail trade industry showed an increase in six regions, e.g., Chubu, Kyushu/Okinawa and Kanto (composition ratio of sales: 79.0%), and a decrease in two regions (the ratio: 20.9%).
