Webinar on Potential for Deployment of Open Source-Based Digital ID Platform to be Held

March 2, 2021

On March 23 (Tue.), 2021, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a webinar (online seminar) for Japanese companies and other businesses which are interested in developing businesses related to digital ID platforms in emerging and other countries. This webinar will explain the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP)*, an open source platform developed in India

1. Background

Japan and India have been enhancing bilateral collaboration in the field of digital technologies and advancing discussions on the potential for introducing digital ID platforms into emerging and other countries. In addition, in December 2020, they convened an online mission to hold discussions on the potential for collaboration with MOSIP, an open source platform developed by the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) in India.

Against this backdrop, METI will hold a webinar (online seminar) for Japanese companies and other businesses which are interested in developing businesses related to digital ID platforms in emerging and other countries. This webinar will explain basic functions and design concepts of MOSIP, which is attracting attention as a promising open source-based digital ID platform, and the current situation of efforts for introducing the platform into other countries.

*Note 1: MOSIP is a package of digital ID platforms that form basic building blocks for the mechanisms by which e-governments are able to provide all digital public services, and that are aimed at deployment into third countries. It was built based on a concept that is similar to the digital ID program (India Stack) in India.
Note 2: This webinar will be operated by Boston Consulting Group to which METI has commissioned the event.
