On March 29 (Mon.), 2021, Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for an Economy that Works for People via video conference.

Both sides discussed a wide range of cooperation including trade and environment at the video conference. Regarding the EU’s transparency and authorization mechanism for exports of COVID-19 vaccines updated on March 24th, Minister Kajiyama asked for Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis to ensure smooth deliveries of vaccines from European countries to Japan. Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis replied that he fully understood Japan’s concerns and would make the utmost efforts to do so, while ensuring timely and sufficient vaccine deliveries to EU citizens.
