Report on Trends in Regional Economies and Industries in January 2021 Compiled

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled a report on economic indices concerning production, private consumption, business investment and other elements for each region in order to ascertain the trends in regional economies across Japan.
Key points

Indices of industrial production (seasonally adjusted; month-on-month basis) showed an increase in eight regions, e.g., Kinki, Kanto and Tokai (composition ratio of value added: 94.4%), and a decrease in one region (the ratio: 5.6%).

Sales in the month on a year-on-year basis in six types of business in the retail trade industry showed a decrease in four regions, e.g., Kinki, Kanto and Kyushu/Okinawa (composition ratio of sales: 74.2%), and an increase in four regions, e.g., Chubu, Tohoku and Chugoku (the ratio: 25.8%).
