Opinion Exchange Held between METI and OECD/NEA Experts regarding ALPS Treated Water

On April 13, 2021, regarding the announcement of the Basic Policy on Handling of ALPS Treated Water, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development/Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD/NEA), held a web-meeting.
Mr. Hosaka Shin, Commissioner, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy from METI held a web-meeting with Mr. William D. MAGWOOD, IV, Director-General from the OECD/NEA.
Commissioner Hosaka expressed his appreciation for the cooperation to date regarding the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), and reported the outlines on the Basic Policy on Handling of ALPS Treated Water.
DG Magwood appreciated the efforts of the Government of Japan (GoJ) in the decommissioning of FDNPS and stated that the Basic Policy announced by the GoJ is a very important step in the long time discussion, and that the OECD/NEA will continue to provide support in such areas as to dispel possible reputational damage for food safety.
Both sides agreed to continue to exchange opinions.
