Four Institutes in India Certified as Members of the Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs)
April 23, 2021
On April 23, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) certified four human resource development institutes as Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs). The four institutes were established by Nissei ASB Machine Co., Ltd., Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd., Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, and Nichirin Co., Ltd., respectively. JIMs are certified based on the Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme, which was agreed on at a Japan-India Summit Meeting in November 2016. The aim of this scheme is to contribute to the development of India's manufacturing industry through public-private collaboration.
The leaders of Japan and India agreed on the Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme in November 2016, in order to work together toward human resource development in India's manufacturing sector. Based on the program, the JIM scheme certifies and supports human resource development institutes established by Japanese companies, and delivers a curriculum for learning the concepts and skills involved in Japanese-style manufacturing. METI has certified 12 institutes in India as JIMs since 2017. The certification of these four brings the total to 16.
