Four Institutes in India Certified as Members of the Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs)

On April 23, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) certified four human resource development institutes as Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs). The four institutes were established by Nissei ASB Machine Co., Ltd., Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd., Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, and Nichirin Co., Ltd., respectively. JIMs are certified based on the Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme, which was agreed on at a Japan-India Summit Meeting in November 2016. The aim of this scheme is to contribute to the development of India's manufacturing industry through public-private collaboration.
1. Outline
The leaders of Japan and India agreed on the Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme in November 2016, in order to work together toward human resource development in India's manufacturing sector. Based on the program, the JIM scheme certifies and supports human resource development institutes established by Japanese companies, and delivers a curriculum for learning the concepts and skills involved in Japanese-style manufacturing. METI has certified 12 institutes in India as JIMs since 2017. The certification of these four brings the total to 16.

3. JIM certification ceremony
On April 23, Mr. Iida Yoichi, Director-General, Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau granted a certificate of accreditation to Mr. Hiromatsu Kuniaki, Director of Nissei ASB Machine Co., Ltd., Mr. Okabe Masato, Senior Executive Officer of Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd., Mr. Saito Koji, Director and Vice President of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, and Mr. Soga Hiroyuki, Director and Managing Executive Officer of Nichirin Co., Ltd. The proceedings were conducted in the presence of Mr. Sato Kei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Ms. Mona K C Khandhar, Minister (Economic & Commerce) of the Embassy of India in Tokyo.
