Revisions to "Practical Guidelines for Holding Virtual Cooperative General Meetings and Board of Directors Meetings"

May 21, 2021

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announces that it has made revisions to the "Practical Guidelines for Holding Virtual Cooperative General Meetings and Board of Directors Meetings" (hereinafter referred to as the "Practical Guidelines"). The revisions include additions such as the exporters' and importers' partnerships stipulated in the Export and Import Transaction Act.

Background to the revisions

METI formulated and published the Practical Guidelines on May 14, 2021 in order to promote the convening of virtual-only, and hybrid-type virtual general meetings and board of directors meetings, with regard to cooperatives that are stipulated in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Cooperatives Act and other acts.

Today, it has revised the Export and Import Transaction Act's enforcement regulations so that exporters' and importers' partnerships stipulated in the Act can convene virtual-only cooperative general meetings and board of directors meetings. In order to promote the convening of virtual-only, hybrid-type virtual cooperative general meetings and board of directors meetings with regard to these partnerships as well, the ministry has decided to make necessary revisions in conjunction with the revision of the Ministerial Ordinances. These revisions include adding exporters' and importers' partnerships to the list of cooperatives the Practical Guidelines apply to.
