Minister Kajiyama and State Minister Nagasaka Attend an APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting via Video Conference

On June 5 (Sat.), an APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting was held via video conference, and Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Nagasaka Yasumasa, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the meeting. The ministers discussed the multilateral trading system and responses to COVID-19, and adopted a Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting Joint Statement and Annexes.

The meeting was held via video conference in response to a call by New Zealand (the 2021 APEC chair), and Minister Kajiyama and State Minister Nagasaka attended it. (Mr. Washio Eiichiro, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended as a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.)

Minister Kajiyama communicated the importance of strengthening the global supply chain, shifting to a digital society, and achieving a carbon-neutral society through green growth. State Minister Nagasaka spoke about the importance of climate change issues, WTO e-commerce negotiations, and securing a level playing field in order to accelerate discussions ahead of the WTO Ministerial Meeting.

In the meeting, the ministers discussed the multilateral trading system and responses to COVID-19, then adopted a joint statement. In addition, following the Declaration on Facilitating the Movement of Essential Goods issued last July, the meeting issued a Statement on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Chains and a Statement on Services to Support the Movement of Essential Goods as annexes.
