June 17, 2021
With the value of health being reaffirmed throughout society because of the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more companies, etc. are viewing their employees' health as an asset, and investing in it from a business-management perspective through health and productivity management. In recent years, institutional investors have also been evaluating companies' efforts toward health and productivity management from the standpoint of ESG, and it has become important for companies to disclose information on their health and productivity management in a form that can be used for comparisons.
Therefore, with the aim of highlighting the progress of each company's efforts, METI has published the evaluation summaries (feedback sheets) for the 441 enterprises that gave their consent out of all those involved in the 2021 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program (Large Enterprise Category [White 500]).Evaluation Summaries for the 2021 Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program Published
1. Purpose and background
The Survey on Health and Productivity Management analyzes the health and productivity management efforts in companies and how they change over time (2,523 enterprises last fiscal year), and more and more enterprises are responding to it each year. With more than 80% of the stock selection companies that make up the Nikkei 255 now doing so, many of the leading companies in each industry have begun to promote health and productivity management as one of their management strategies.
"Health" comes under "S" ("Social") in ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) information, and "caring for [the workforce's] health and working environment" has also been added to the newly revised Corporate Governance Code. Thus, there is growing interest in how "health" is positioned in corporate management.
In order to encourage companies to disclose information about health and productivity management and create an environment that will be viewed favorably by a variety of stakeholders, METI has published evaluation summaries (feedback sheets) based on the responses of 441 enterprises to the Survey on Health and Productivity Management. These are the enterprises that consented to disclosure out of all those involved in last year's 2021 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program (Large Enterprise Category [White 500]). (The total market capitalization of these 441 enterprises as of June 15 this year is 249 trillion yen.)

2. Future plans
Further action toward information disclosure will be taken in the FY2021 Survey on Health and Productivity Management due to be conducted this summer. Evaluation summaries (feedback sheets) for enterprises will be published in the first half of 2022, after confirming their intentions regarding disclosure, and if they give their consent.
We hope that progressively disclosing information will prompt more companies to actively publish details about their health and productivity management, and that their efforts toward it will be seen favorably by a wide variety of stakeholders.
