Eleven Programs Certified as FY2021 1st Mathematics, Data Science and AI Smart Higher Education Programs (Literacy Level)

The Cabinet Office, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) have established the Mathematics, Data Science and AI Smart Higher Education (MDASH) Programs Certification System. Today, 11 programs have been certified as FY2021 1st MDASH Programs (Literacy Level).
With the aim of achieving the goal "all humanities and science students of universities and colleges of technology should master introductory-level mathematics, data science and AI in their schools," the Cabinet Office, MEXT, and METI have established a system for certifying programs of excellence in mathematics, data science and AI education which count as credits for graduation from universities, and similar institutions. (excluding graduate schools but including 2-year colleges and colleges of technology).*1
The government called for applicants to the MDASH Programs (Literacy Level) and MDASH Programs Plus (Literacy Level) under this system from March 17 to May 14, 2021.
2. Certification status
The calls for applicants targeted universities, 2-year colleges, and colleges of technology, and applications made by the end of April were examined by the Mathematics, Data Science and AI Smart Higher Education Programs Certification System Examination Committee. As a result, 11 applicants have been certified as shown in the attachment
For the remaining applications, the second and other certifications will be conducted by the end of July.
