Call for Outstanding Businesses as Applicants for FY2021 Excellent Green Logistics Commendation Program
July 1, 2021
From July 1 to August 27, 2021, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) will open a call for outstanding businesses as applicants for the FY2020 Excellent Green Logistics Commendation Program. Under this program, METI and MLIT will commend businesses that have made remarkable contributions to establishing sustainable logistics systems through reduction of environmental burdens, improvement of productivity, and other efforts in the logistics industry.
These winners will give presentations on their efforts at a Green Logistics Partnership Conference to be held in December 2021. The ministries are looking forward to your applications.
1. Outline of the Green Logistics Partnership Conference
The establishment of sustainable logistics systems through reduction of environmental burdens, improvement of productivity and other efforts in the logistics industry requires consignors and logistics business operators not just to act individually, but also to share their knowledge (in partnerships) and implement collaborative and cooperative efforts. Running since FY2005, the Green Logistics Partnership Conference is an opportunity to support the industry's cooperative efforts conducted among businesses and to popularize and facilitate the Green Logistics Partnership program.
Organizers:
METI, MLIT, the Japan Institute of Logistics Systems, and the Japan Association for Logistics and TransportCooperator:
Keidanren
2. Eligibility and other requirements
Eligible applicants are businesses that have conducted efforts for at least one month through which they have established sustainable logistics systems by reducing environmental burdens (e.g., reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, improvement of productivity, and other efforts) in the logistics industry by taking measures toward improving logistics in partnership with other business operators (e.g., a partnership between a consignor and a logistics business operator).
In selecting the winners, the organizers will comprehensively assess the applicants based on perspectives such as optimizing supply chains as a whole by promoting digital transformation and standardization regarding logistics, improving labor environments, and reviewing business practices.
3. Creation of new awards
A new "Logistics Digital Transformation and Standardization Award" and "Logistics Structural Reform Award" will be created to commend businesses that have worked toward "thorough optimization of the supply chain as a whole through promoting digital transformation and standardization of distribution" and "promotion of labor shortage countermeasures and distribution structural reform," which are the main pillars of the Comprehensive Physical Distribution Policy (Cabinet decision on June 15, 2021).
