The Government of Japan signed on IAEA's support for handling of ALPS treated water at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

On July 8, 2021, The Government of Japan has signed a TOR with the IAEA regarding the IAEA's support for the handling of ALPS treated water from TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
The signing of this document follows a meeting between METI Minister Kajiyama and Mr. Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, in April of this year*, in which they requested cooperation in i) dispatch of review missions; ii) support to environmental monitoring; and iii) ensuring transparency towards the international community.
In the future, the IAEA will conduct a review of the safety of ALPS treated water discharge, marine monitoring, based on the IAEA's safety standards. The results of these reviews will be made public as they progress.
The support activities will be carried out through a task force established within the IAEA Secretariat, and will be advised by a group of international experts selected by the IAEA.
The Government of Japan will continue to explain about the situation of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and the status of its efforts regarding the discharge of ALPS treated water, to the international community in a transparent manner.
