METI and Thailand's Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Digital Economy and Society Sign a Memorandum of Cooperation toward Promoting LIPE, Which Will Help Achieve Thailand 4.0

At the Fifth Meeting of the Japan–Thailand High Level Joint Commission (HLJC) held on August 11 this year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Thailand's Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Digital Economy and Society signed a Memorandum of Cooperation toward Promoting LIPE, which will help achieve Thailand 4.0.

At the HLJC meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation regarding technological research and development in the fields of Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) was also signed between Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

1. Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) toward promoting LIPE

At the Fifth Meeting of the HLJC (co-chaired by Mr. Motegi Toshimitsu, Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mr. Matsuo Takehiko, Director-General of the Trade Policy Bureau, and Mr. Iida Yoichi, Director-General of the Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with the Thai Ministry of Industry's Department of Industrial Promotion and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society's Digital Economy Promotion Agency. The signing was witnessed by METI State Minister Nagasaka and H.E. Mr.Dheerayut Varnitshang, Vice Minister of Industry. The MOC confirms the necessary cooperation toward promoting LIPE, which will help achieve Thailand 4.0.

LIPE (Lean IoT Plant Management and Execution) is a human resource development project mainly aimed at small and medium-sized manufacturers in Thailand. The project seeks to develop human resources who can improve productivity efficiently by utilizing IoT technologies within the lean methodology, which are among the Japanese manufacturing industry's strengths. By doing so, it aims to increase the competitiveness of Thailand's manufacturing SMEs and its manufacturing industry as a whole, and help to achieve Thailand 4.0.

2. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation regarding technological research and development in the field of BCG

At the HLJC meeting, in the presence of METI State Minister Nagasaka and H.E. Mr. Anek Laothamatas, Minister of Advanced Education, Science and Innovation, Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Thailand's National Research and Development Organization (NSTDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation regarding technological research and development in the fields of Bio-Circular-Green (BCG). This MOU was signed in response to a request for cooperation submitted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to METI, and with a view toward further linking Japan's green growth strategy with Thailand's model of a BCG economy.
