From 13:00 on October 5 (Tue.), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold this year's TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) Summit online to discuss climate-related financial disclosures. The summit will bring together leaders of world-class industrial and financial organizations to share their insights and recommendations, with a view toward creating a virtuous cycle of economic growth and environmental protection. The aim is to promote further disclosure which forms the basis for appropriate investment decisions. This year's program has now been released. A live stream will be universally available by registering in advance.
The world's first TCFD Summit was held in Tokyo in October 2019, bringing together leaders of global industrial and financial organizations from around the world. The participants agreed on the key concepts, including "the importance of engagement" and "the importance of assessing opportunities." The second TCFD Summit was held online in October 2020. This time, industrial and financial leaders discussed how to make further use of the TCFD recommendations. There were also sessions by practitioners toward developing the TCFD recommendations further and helping them take root in business practice. (Around 3,200 people registered to view it.)
METI will also hold Tokyo "Beyond-Zero" Week 2021 like last year. As before, this will be an intensive series of international conferences related to energy and the environment with a view toward achieving carbon neutrality—and even going "beyond zero." TCFD Summit 2021 will form a part of this broader initiative.
The summits invite leaders from global industrial and financial organizations to discuss how to make further use of the TCFD recommendations. The aim is to promote further disclosure which forms the basis for appropriate investment decisions. They also discuss how information on transitions should be disclosed. The aim here is to present successful efforts by companies to use climate change as an opportunity, in order to encourage the financial world to spur on corporate efforts toward carbon neutrality.
