Winners of the METI Minister's Award under the FY2021 Factory Greening Award Program

- National Award for Factory Greening -

October 22, 2021

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been conducting the Factory Greening Award Program (commonly called the "National Award for Factory Greening" program) with the aim of recognizing factories that have proactively promoted factory greening and have made remarkable improvements to the environments inside and outside their sites. METI hereby announces that it has chosen two winners of the METI Minister's Award under the FY2021 award program.

1. Outline of the Award Program

The award program aims to recognize factories. that: operate under the mindset stipulated in the Factory Location Act; proactively promote factory greening; and have made remarkable improvements to the environments inside and outside their sites. Through this program, METI aims to further promote factory greening.

Promoting greening of factories will help to establish favorable relationships between them and their environments, and enhance harmonization with local communities and broader society. It will also improve conditions within their sites.

From these standpoints, including the FY2021 program, METI has conducted the award program 40 times since its inauguration in FY1982. Based on the results of on-site surveys and examinations by external experts, it had recognized 177 factories as winners of the METI Minister's Award by FY2019.

Moreover, every fiscal year, one factory has been selected from among these winners and honored with the Prime Minister's Commendations for Contributors to the National Greening Campaign, taking the opportunity of the Ceremony of Awarding the MIDORI Prize organized by the Cabinet Office.

In addition to these winners of the METI Minister's Award this fiscal year, METI chose 11 winners of the Director-General's Award of a Regional Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, while the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center chose 10 winners of the Chairperson's Award of the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center and other awards. METI collectively calls these awards the "National Award for Factory Greening."
