Minister Hagiuda Holds a Meeting with H.E. Ms. Gina M, Raimondo, United States Secretary of Commerce

On November 15, 2021, Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Gina M, Raimondo, United States Secretary of Commerce, agreed to initiate consultations to resolve the U.S. Section 232 tariff issue on imports of steel and aluminum from Japan, and established the Japan-U.S. Commercial and Industrial Partnership (JUCIP).

METI Minister Hagiuda Koichi and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M, Raimondo held a meeting in Tokyo today and agreed to initiate consultations to resolve the U.S. Section 232 tariff issue on imports of steel and aluminum from Japan.

They also decided to establish the Japan-U.S. Commercial and Industrial Partnership (JUCIP) in order to promote mutual cooperation towards strengthening the industrial competitiveness of both countries, enhancing supply chain resiliency, addressing global challenges such as climate change, and maintaining a free and fair economic order, while engaging with other like-minded countries including in the Indo-Pacific region.
