Minister Hagiuda attends virtual meeting with WTO Director General Dr. Okonjo Iweala

On November 22, Mr. Hagiuda, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry attended a virtual meeting with WTO Director General Dr. Okonjo Iweala  and discussed WTO reform among other issues.

At the meeting, Minister Hagiuda expressed great appreciation for the leadership that Dr. Okonjo Iweala has shown since assuming her current role. They also exchanged views on the importance of promoting WTO reform and ensuring the success of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12).
Below are some of the remarks made by Minister Hagiuda.

“With the MC12 to be held in only a week, it is of crucial importance to deliver a message that the WTO is capable of solving challenges the world faces today.”

“The WTO is the only international organization that can discipline and correct international trade practices. It is essential to maintain and strengthen the WTO to address recent economic and social issues such as digitalization and climate change. Japan will continue to firmly support Dr. Okonjo Iweala in her efforts toward achieving WTO reform.”
