State Minister Hosoda Attends 12th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly

On January 15 and 16, 2022, Mr. Hosoda Kenichi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the 12th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly via video conference.

IRENA is an international organization inaugurated to promote the widespread adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. As the highest decision-making body for IRENA, the Assembly meeting has been held every January since its first session in 2011. The 12th session, held via video conference on January 15 and 16, brought together not only ministerial and other officials from member countries and regions, but also representatives of related international organizations and private companies and other stakeholders from around the world. These participants advanced discussions and deliberations on efforts for facilitating the utilization of renewable energy. In addition, they held discussions on and adopted future work plans, budgets, and other important matters.

On January 15, 2022, State Minister Hosoda attended the 12th Session as a representative of Japan and communicated by posting a video message on Japan's contributions as the chair of the IRENA Council in 2021 and its efforts in the fields of renewable energy and hydrogen based on the Sixth Strategic Energy Plan.

Moreover, Mr. Odawara Kiyoshi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, also attended the session by posting a video message.
