Fifty Enterprises Selected under the 2022 Health & Productivity Stock Selection
March 9, 2022
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) have jointly been selecting outstanding listed enterprises engaging in a health and productivity management program, in which enterprises focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees' and other workers' health from a management perspective, and recognizing them as brands under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection. This program aims to introduce the selected enterprises as attractive investment options to investors who prioritize the improvement of corporate value from a long-term perspective. Through this effort, METI and TSE aim to encourage enterprises to further engage in health and productivity management.
The 2022 Selection is the eighth such selection, and METI hereby announces that 50 enterprises in 32 industries were selected as brands for the 2021 Health & Productivity Stock Selection. This is the highest number of enterprises in a single selection since the program was established.
1. Outline of the Health & Productivity Stock Selection
METI and TSE have jointly been selecting outstanding listed enterprises engaging in excellent efforts as a health and productivity management program in which enterprises focus on and strategically carry out efforts with regard to their employees' and other workers' health from a management perspective and recognizing them as brands under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection. Under the program, METI and TSE introduce the selected enterprises as attractive investment options to investors who prioritize the improvement of corporate value from a long-term perspective. Through this effort, METI and TSE aim to raise public recognition of enterprises that are engaging in health and productivity management and to thereby encourage enterprises to further engage in such activities.
2. Method for selecting enterprises under the 2022 Health & Productivity Stock Selection
Prior to the final selection, METI conducted the FY2021 Survey on Health and Productivity Management*, and based on those results, made the selection from the top 20% of listed enterprises with the highest levels of health and productivity management on a one-company-per-industry basis. In addition to health and productivity management, these enterprises were also assessed on their ROE (return on equity), response to the previous year’s survey, and level of disclosure of management information to the public.
METI also selected enterprises in each industry that performed better than the average of the highest-ranking enterprises as recognized brands under the Health & Productivity Stock Selection.
<Major selection criteria>
- Enterprises ranking in the top 20% of all the enterprises that answered the Survey on Health and Productivity Management in terms of scores derived from the overall rating system;
- Enterprises with an average ROE (return on equity) that is 0% or higher for the past three years or has not declined for the past three consecutive years
- Enterprises must not have committed any serious legal violations
