Announcement of Organizations Selected under the 2022 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program

2,299 organizations under the large enterprise category and 12,255 organizations under the SME category have been recognized

March 9, 2022

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is promoting "health and productivity management," whereby it considers employees' health and productivity management from a business-management perspective to be one of the efforts toward achieving a healthy, long-lived society, and strategically implements initiatives that lead to maintenance and promotion of health.
METI hereby announces that on March 4, 2022, the Nippon Kenko Kaigi has recognized 2,299 organizations under the large enterprise category (among which the top 500 were recognized as "White 500" enterprises), and 12,255 organizations under the SME category (among which the top 500 were recognized as "Bright 500" enterprises), as the FY2022 recognized organizations.

Note: The Nippon Kenko Kaigi is an organization that takes practical community- and workplace-based actions, through collaboration among private organizations and with full administrative support, in order to extend the healthy lifespan of and provide appropriate medical care for each individual in Japan, as a country that is facing a drastically aging society and declining birthrate. The organization aims to encourage local governments and private organizations (e.g., economic organizations, medical organizations, and insurers) to work together to achieve concrete measures in workplaces and communities to overcome health-related challenges.

1. Outline of the recognition program

The Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program is a program established by METI in FY2016 that highlights outstanding large enterprises and SMEs implementing health and productivity management and thereby aims to develop an environment in which such enterprises are able to gain enhanced recognition, e.g., from employees, employment seekers, related enterprises and financial institutions.
The Nippon Kenko Kaigi recognizes Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations based on its review of applications sent from enterprises and other organizations, and on the assessment criteria set forth by the Health Investment Working Group of the Healthcare and Medical Care New Industrial Council, a body that holds joint meetings with the Health and Productivity Management 500 Working Group of the Nippon Kenko Kaigi and the SME Ten-Thousand Health-Declaration Working Group.

2. Information on the 2022 Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program

Under the 2022 program, the sixth of such program, the Nippon Kenko Kaigi has recognized 2,299 organizations under the large enterprise category (among which the top 500 were recognized as "White 500" enterprises), and 12,255 organizations under the SME category (among which the top 500 were recognized as "Bright 500" enterprises), as the FY2022 recognized organizations.
This represents massive growth compared to last year, when the Nippon Kenko Kaigi recognized 1,801 organizations under the large enterprise category and 7,934 organizations under the SME category as the FY2021 recognized organizations.

3. Information on the disclosure of each enterprise's assessment results (feedback sheet)

METI will provide a feedback sheet on organizations that have completed the Survey on Health and Productivity Management. These documents, which contain their ranks, deviation values, and other information, will serve as a tool for them to use to assess and improve their efforts.

Starting this year, organizations were able to decide through the Survey on Health and Productivity Management whether to disclose information through this feedback sheet. This is being done in order to encourage the top runners of health and productivity management to actively disclose information on their health and productivity management both inside and outside the organization. The feedback sheet contains information on approximately 2,000 enterprises that gave permission through the survey to disclose their information, and will allow readers to compare data between them. The document is scheduled to be made available from the METI website starting on March 15, 2022. (158, or about 70%, of the companies that make up the Nikkei 225 are included.)
The publication of the feedback sheet is expected to promote dialogue with employees, employment seekers, investors, business partners, and other stakeholders, and improve assessments of efforts toward health and productivity management.
