Minister Hagiuda Holds Meeting with Senior Minister Azmin Ali, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry

On May 24, Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Y.B. Dato' Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Malaysian Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry, to confirm that both sides would further deepen their economic relationship. They also exchanged views on regional issues between Japan and Malaysia.

During the meeting, Minister Hagiuda explained the Asia-Japan Investing for the Future Initiative (AJIF) that was announced in January, and the two ministers exchanged views on efforts to materialize related initiatives, such as those that aim to strengthen supply chains. They also confirmed that the two countries would further deepen their economic relationship. In order to prompt new, future-oriented investments via said efforts, the both countries will further study the idea of establishing Japan-Malaysia Industrial Policy Dialogue.
The two ministers agreed to make an effort and promote cooperation in aircraft industry, by exchange of information, use of support measures, and creating business matching opportunity for interested companies in each country to create actual cooperative projects, and to encourage the expansion of supply chains
in Asia.
Regarding the trade sector, the two leaders welcomed the establishment of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and exchanged views on RCEP and CPTPP.
