State Minister Hosoda attended the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministerial Meeting

On May 26 and 27, the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers Meeting hosted by Germany was held in Berlin. Mr. Hosoda, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Ooka, State Minister of Environment attended the meeting.
In addition to ensuring energy security considering the current geopolitical situation, strengthening climate change mitigation, the importance of energy transition and green transformation of industry to achieve carbon neutrality were discussed at the meeting, and a G7 Ministerial Communiqué was adopted.
1.G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers Meeting

- Given that the main focus of this meeting was strengthening energy security considering the current geopolitical situation, various related issues were discussed, including the importance of energy transition and the green transformation of industry to achieve carbon neutrality.
- State Minister Hosoda attended four sessions and emphasised the importance of energy security, in light of the situation in Ukraine, as well as the importance of (1) various transition pathways according to each country's circumstances, (2) creation of innovation, and (3) engagement by developed countries with developing countries in order to achieve global carbon neutrality. State Minister Hosoda also stated the importance of transforming the entire economic and social system, or Green Transformation (GX), to achieve emissions reductions and improve industrial competitiveness, viewing efforts to achieve reduction targets as an opportunity for economic growth.
- Based on the discussions at the meeting, a G7 Ministerial Communiqué was adopted.

2. Meeting with participating ministers
At the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministerial Meeting, State Minister Hosoda exchanged views with Mr. Habeck, Germany’s Minister of Economics and Climate Protection, Mr. Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Turk, the US Deputy Secretary of Energy, and Mr. Hands, UK’s Minister of State for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change.At the Meeting with Minister Habeck of German, the ministers discussed decarbonization of the power sector, international fossil fuel finance, and international collaboration on carbon intensity.
At the meeting with Minister Wilkinson of Canada, the ministers discussed LNG and upstream investment support to strengthen energy security, and cooperation in low-carbon technologies
At the meeting with Deputy Secretary Turk of the United States, the ministers discussed LNG and upstream investment support to ensure energy security, and U.S.-Japan energy cooperation in low-carbon technologies.
At the meeting with Minister Hans of the United Kingdom, the ministers discussed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
