Cabinet Decision Made on the FY2021 Annual Report on Energy (Japan's Energy White Paper 2022)

The Annual Report on Energy (also known as the "Energy White Paper") summarizes the measures on energy supply and demand that the Government of Japan conducted in the previous fiscal year. It is submitted to the Diet pursuant to Article 11 of the Basic Act on Energy Policy (Act No. 71 of 2002). On June 7, 2021, a Cabinet Decision was made on the Energy White Paper 2021.
Outline of the report
Each year, the Energy White Paper describes the energy trends and the status of measures taken regarding energy supply and demand in the previous fiscal year. In addition to these data, this year's paper introduces the following.
(1) Progress in reconstruction in Fukushima
- Current situation regarding supporting victims of the nuclear accident, e.g., developing environments that will allow evacuees to return home;
- Progress in disposal of ALPS treated water;
- Progress in decommissioning, e.g., removal of fuel debris
(2) Challenges and responses toward achieving carbon neutrality
- Global trends surrounding decarbonization;
- Japan's responses toward achieving decarbonization
(3) Responses to uncertainty surrounding energy
- Impact of COVID-19 on energy supply and demand;
- Surging global energy prices and Russia's aggression against Ukraine;
- Impact of surging global energy prices on Japan
