Release of the 2022 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA) and the METI Priorities based on the 2022 Report, along with the Interim Report of the Special Task-Force on Policy Response under Suspension of the Function of the WTO Appellate Body

On June 27, 2022, the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Committee under the Industrial Structure Council compiled the 2022 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA). In response, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) decided to adopt the METI Priorities based on the 2022 Report.
The Interim Report of the Special Task Force on Policy Response Measures under the Suspension of the Function of the WTO Appellate Body, which was established in May 2022, was also released.

1. Outline of the 2022 Report on Compliance by Major Trading Partners with Trade Agreements (WTO, FTA/EPA and IIA)

Since 1992, the report has been published annually in order to identify trade policies/measures of major trading partners that may be inconsistent with international rules, such as those stipulated in WTO agreements, and to urge those partners to rectify such trade policies/measures.

The 2022 edition is the 31st in this series, and was adopted by the Subcommittee on Unfair Trade Policies and Measures of the Trade Policy Committee under the Industrial Structure Council (Chair: KIMURA Fukunari, Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University).

2. Outline of the METI Priorities Based on the 2022 Report

METI has also released the list of priority issues and related action plans in a report called “METI Priorities Based on the 2022 Report” in conjunction with the publication of the report mentioned in Item 1 above.

3. Outline of the Interim Report of the Special Task Force on Policy Response under the Suspension of the Function of the WTO Appellate Body

METl also released the Interim Report of the Special Task Force on Policy Response under the Suspension of the Function of the WTO Appellate Body (Chair: KAWASE Tsuyoshi, Professor, Faculty of Law, Sophia University) which was established under METI in May 2022.
