Release of the White Paper on International Economy and Trade 2022

June 28, 2022

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has released the 2022 version of its annual White Paper on International Economy and Trade, which was presented to the Cabinet on June 28, 2022.

Highlights of the White Paper

The 2022 White Paper on International Economy and Trade shows the impact that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has had on the global economy in terms of food and energy supply constraints and soaring prices, trade and finance complications, and more. Rising global uncertainty has also made it clear that dealing with the following four trends is necessary: accelerating digital transformation, mounting geopolitical risks, growing emphasis of shared values, and accelerating shifts in industrial policies by government.
The paper proposes that finding opportunities for economic growth is important as a future direction. These opportunities may come through ensuring economic security, visualizing and understanding increasingly complex supply chains via data collaborations, actively creating value and cooperating on DX throughout Asia, and investing further in intangible assets.
