New Research and Development Organization has Decided to Be Launched for Research into Next-Generation Semiconductors

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has decided to launch a new research and development organization to bring together wisdom from Japan and abroad for research into next-generation semiconductors, with a view toward joint research between Japan and the US based on the Basic Principles on Semiconductor Cooperation the two countries agreed to in May.
1. Overview
Minister Hagiuda and US Secretary of Commerce Raimondo agreed to the Basic Principles on Semiconductor Cooperation at the first ministerial meeting of the Japan-US Commercial and Industrial Partnership (JUCIP) in May.
With a view toward joint research between Japan and the US based on that agreement, METI has now decided to launch a new research and development organization to bring together wisdom from Japan and abroad for research into next-generation semiconductors.
The details will be discussed with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and other relevant ministries and agencies, and with relevant people from industry and other sectors.
