Study Group for Designing a Growth-Oriented, Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy and Strategy Planning Office for a Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy Established
October 3, 2022
On October 3, 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) established a Study Group for Designing a Growth-Oriented, Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy and a Strategy Planning Office for a Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy (common name: Design Office for a Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy).
In addition, the first Study Group for Designing a Growth-Oriented, Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy will be held on October 5.
Background and purpose
The establishment of a growth-oriented, resource-autonomous circular economy has been set as one of the new opportunities of economic and industrial policy. Based on the Circular Economy Vision 2020 formulated in May 2020, we will seek to flesh out a circular economy policy from the perspectives of (1) resource reuse and recycling, (2) resource generation, (3) resource sharing, and (4) long-term use of resources in order to promote innovation in technologies and rules to make the domestic resource circulation system autonomous and resilient and to capture international markets. We will begin to deliberate on a strategy for a growth-oriented, resource-autonomous circular economy, and aim to have one ready by the end of FY2022. In order to deliberate on this strategy and pursue other relevant activities, we established a Study Group for Designing a Growth-Oriented, Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy and a Strategy Planning Office for a Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy (common name: Design Office for a Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy).
Outline of the study group
The strategy for a growth-oriented, resource-autonomous circular economy will be a comprehensive policy package toward establishing a growth-oriented, resource-autonomous circular economy. This study group will be held as a forum for deliberating on it, and consist of discussions by opinion leaders regarding the social significance and necessity of establishing such an economy through, for example, restructuring economic policies on resource circulation. In particular, the members will leave any short-sighted interests pertaining to the various sectors at the door.
