Fourth Japan-Australia Ministerial Economic Dialogue Held

On October 11, Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Senator Don FARRELL, Australia's Minister for Trade and Tourism, and Senator Tim AYRES, Assistant Minister for Trade, in the Fourth Japan-Australia Ministerial Economic Dialogue.

The Japan-Australia Ministerial Economic Dialogue is a ministerial-level policy dialogue established between METI and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to discuss strategic economic issues between Australia and Japan.

Minister Nishimura and Senator Farrell, Australia's Minister for Trade and Tourism, held the Fourth Japan-Australia Ministerial Economic Dialogue on October 11. The ministers were joined online by Senator Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade, and they issued a joint statement after the meeting based on the outcomes.

Australia a Special Strategic Partner to Japan, meaning that it shares Japan's democratic values and vision of a "free, open Indo-Pacific." During their talk, the ministers discussed cooperation in the trade and energy sectors.

With regard to the trade sector, the ministers confirmed the need to work together on issues such as IPEF, CPTPP, RCEP, WTO, and enhancing supply chain resilience, and to coordinate in the Indo-Pacific region.

With regard to the energy sector, in addition to asking for understanding to ensure a stable supply of energy and resources such as LNG, the ministers discussed cooperating in the Asia Zero Emissions Community Concept (AZEC Concept) and in fields of clean energy, including hydrogen and fuel ammonia.
