Minister Nishimura Visits Singapore

On November 15 (Tue.), Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited the Republic of Singapore, where he held meetings and discussed topics such as trade policy with H.E. Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Trade and Industry; Mr. Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister and Chairman of the Monetary Authority (former Prime Minister); and Dr. Tan See Leng, Second Minister for Trade and Industry and Minister for Manpower.
He also attended the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Japan-Southeast Asia Market Forum, where he participated in a lecture and panel discussion.

1. Meeting with H.E. Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Trade and Industry

Both sides exchanged views on how to proceed with the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), and on the current situation and issues surrounding Economic Partnership Agreements such as the CPTPP and RCEP.

2. Meeting with H.E. Mr. Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister and Chairman of the Monetary Authority (former Prime Minister)

Minister Nishimura held a meeting with Mr. Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister and former Prime Minister of Singapore, which remains a strategic partner in the midst of major historic crises including the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and climate change. Both sides exchanged views on trade policy such as that of the IPEF, CPTPP, and RCEP, the situation surrounding the Indo-Pacific region, and various other topics.

3. Meeting with H.E. Dr. Tan See Leng, Second Minister for Trade and Industry and Minister for Manpower

Both sides exchanged views on topics such as the ”Asia Zero Emission Community” concept, cooperation in areas of clean energy including hydrogen and ammonia, and efforts to build entrepreneurial networks between Japan and Singapore.

4. Presentation in the opening session of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum

At the Ministerial View session, Minister Nishimura gave a presentation on the resilience of Japan's supply chains, the importance of rule-based approaches in international trade, promotion of investment into clean energy toward carbon neutrality, support for innovation through startups, and Japan's concepts for overcoming the major crises the world is currently facing. He also spoke with Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, and exchanged views on economic policy in the midst of the crises currently facing Japan and the rest of the world with a focus on efforts to build supply chains with like-minded countries.

5. Lecture at the Japan-Southeast Asia Market Forum

Minister Nishimura attended the Japan-Southeast Asia Market Forum, where he presented a lecture on topics such as the improvement of Japan's investment environment and support systems as well as the strengthening cooperation with ASEAN.
