Japan Reports on the Progress in Preparations for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, at the 171st General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)

In the 171st General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) held in Paris from November 28 (Mon.) to 29 (Tue.), 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reported on the progress made in its preparations for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai before the other BIE member countries.

1. Overview

From November 28 (Mon.) to 29 (Tue.), 2022, the 171st BIE General Assembly was held in Paris. In the assembly, in addition to regular briefings by the BIE committees, some of the delegates reported on the progress in their preparations for their future expositions.

2. Details of the report on Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai

Mr. Haneda Koji, Commissioner General of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, reported on the progress that has been made in Japan's preparations for the exposition since the convening of the BIE General Assembly in June 2022. He reported in particular on the Japanese government's efforts, including amendments to the action plan, the progress of activities to invite participants, and the appointment of Mr. Okada Naoki as Minister for the World Expo 2025.
In addition, Mr. Ichinoki Manatsu, Deputy Secretary General, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, reported on the organizer's activities, including the development of the venue, the future schedule, International Planning Meeting (IPM), official signing ceremonies with participants, the Future Society Showcase Projects, and the event to mark 1,000 days before the Expo as an activity to build momentum.
