Memorandum of Cooperation in the Area of Unified QR Code -Based Payments Signed with Bank Indonesia

On December 9, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Bank Indonesia signed the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and Bank Indonesia on Cooperation in the Area of Unified QR Code-Based Payments.
METI is exploring interoperability between Japan's standard QR codes for payments (JPQR) with those in Southeast Asian countries.
Mr. Mogi Tadashi, Director-General for Commerce and Service Industry Policy, and Mrs. Filianingsih Hendarta, Assistant Governor – Head of Payment System Policy Department of Bank Indonesia, signed the MOC on cooperation in the area of unified QR code -based payments in the presence of Mr. Nagamine Makoto, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Dody Budi Waluyo, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. Indonesia is currently disseminating the use of its own standard, the Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS).
Under the MOC, both countries agreed to exchange information and cooperate in technical areas to promote the interoperability of QR code payments and cross-border payments based on each country's standards.
The cooperation based on this MOC is expected to accelerate progress to make unified QR code -based payments between both countries interoperable and make them more convenient in Japan and Indonesia.
