Minister Nishimura Attends the Ministerial Discussion of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) for Prosperity

A Ministerial Discussion of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) for Prosperity was held online on December 20, and Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Hayashi Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended as representatives of Japan. An overview is given below.

The IPEF Ministerial Meeting was held today by Ms. Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, and all 14 IPEF countries participated.

The United States, Japan, Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam

During the meeting, representatives of the member countries held discussions, particularly on specific benefits that should be achieved under the IPEF based on the first chief negotiators meeting held in Brisbane, Australia, from December 10 to 15.

The representatives shared the aim of building a framework that balances higher-standard rules between them with concrete merits through cooperation.
