Minister Nishimura Visits Sultanate of Oman

He also witnessed the signing ceremony of key term sheets for the sale and purchase of LNG between several Japanese companies and Oman LNG, and held meetings with His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, Ms. Reem Omar Zawawi, and H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman.
1. Meeting with H.E. Eng. Salim Bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Ministry of Energy and Minerals
Minister Nishimura expressed his gratitude to Minister Aufi for the prospects of a long-term LNG offtake agreements between Japanese companies and Oman LNG and confirmed that they will cooperate to ensure a stable supply of energy. The two ministers also confirmed the importance of LNG in energy transitions and agreed on the need for upstream investment in the field. In addition, they discussed the importance of cooperation in clean energy fields, including hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon recycling.

2. Signing ceremonies for the MOC and basic agreement
Minister Nishimura and Minister Aufi held a signing ceremony for a memorandum of cooperation on hydrogen, fuel ammonia and carbon recycling including methanation. In addition, Minister Nishimura witnessed the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in energy fields including hydrogen and ammonia between JOGMEC and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Furthermore, key term sheets for the sale and purchase of LNG between several Japanese companies and Oman LNG were signed in the presence of both ministers.


3. Courtesy call to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said
During his courtesy call to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister Nishimura expressed his gratitude for supporting the signing of the long-term purchase agreement of LNG, and the two sides deepened discussions on future cooperation between Japan and Oman in hydrogen, ammonia, and other fields of decarbonization.
4. Meeting with Ms. Reem Omar Zawawi
During his meeting with Ms. Reem Omar Zawawi, the daughter of the late Sultan's special advisor Dr. Zawawi, Minister Nishimura expressed his gratitude for her efforts for the long-lasting friendship between Japan and Oman, and the two sides discussed cooperating to widely develop Japan-Oman relations.


5. Meeting with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman
The two sides confirmed that they will strengthen bilateral relations mainly in fields of economy and energy, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Oman, and discussed various topics related to cooperating with a view toward the next 50 years.
