Minister Nishimura Visits Malaysia

On Wednesday, December 28, Minister Nishimura visited Malaysia to hold a meeting with Minister of International Trade and Industry Zafrul to exchange views on bilateral cooperation including in the aircraft sector, trade policies such as CPTPP and RCEP, and promotion of cooperation on the occasion of the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, and to hold a meeting with Minister of Economy Rafizi to exchange views on the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC) concept and bilateral cooperation in the energy sector including a stable supply of LNG. In addition, Mr. Nishimura visited a Japanese company operating in Malaysia.
1. Bilateral meeting with Y.B.Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of International Trade and Industry
The two ministers confirmed the policy directions on strengthening bilateral relations in such areas as the aircraft sector, supply chain resilience, and the promotion of innovation using digital technology, as well as how the two countries will develop cooperation on the occasion of the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. They also exchanged views on the progress of IPEF negotiations and the steady implementation of CPTPP and RCEP toward building a free and fair economic order.
2. Bilateral meeting with Y.B.Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy
The ministers comfirmed that the two countries cooperate towards for realization of the "Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC)" concept. They also confirmed on further bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including a stable supply of LNG.
3. Visit to the Toyota plant
Minister Nishimura visited Toyota's Bukit Raja plant, which began operation in 2019 and is utilizing advanced production technologies.
4.Exchange of Opinions with Local Japanese Companies
Minister Nishimura exchanged opinions with Mr. Kojima Daiji, President of the Japanese Chamber of Trade and Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM) and other local Japanese business representatives on the current activities of Japanese companies in Malaysia and the future development of economic relations between the two countries.
