Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic “2+2”) Vice-Ministerial Meeting Held

On January 13, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the Department of State (DOS) held a Vice-Ministerial meeting of Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee in Washington D.C.
Mr. HIRAI Hirohide, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. ONO Keiichi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, represented the Japanese side. Ms. Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, and Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, represented the U.S. side.
In the meeting, both sides shared a recognition on strategic environments surrounding the two countries and growing importance of economic security.
Both sides exchanged views on various issues such as achieving peace and prosperity through rules-based economic order, countering economic coercion and addressing opaque and unfair development finance, strengthening supply capacity to enable global sustainable economic growth, and promoting and securing critical and emerging technologies and critical infrastructure.
Both sides also discussed cooperation toward this year’s G7 and APEC hosted by Japan and the United States respectively, and confirmed that they will crystalize bilateral initiatives toward the 2nd Ministerial Economic “2+2”.
