Agreement Reached on Inauguration of “AZEC/GX Promotion Working Team” in Viet Nam
July 26, 2023
On July 26, 2023, Japan and Viet Nam agreed to inaugurate an “AZEC/GX Promotion Working Team” in Hanoi, Viet Nam. Viet Nam is the first country after the launch of AZEC to inaugurate a framework in which the Japanese public and private sectors and the government of the partner country hold deliberations in the country.
On July 26, 2023, a mission of Japan’s representatives (Mr. Maeda Tadashi, Special Advisor to the Cabinet, Mr. Yamada Takio, Ambassador of Japan to Viet Nam, officials of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, executives of Japanese companies, etc.) held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment of Viet Nam, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
At the meeting, in view of the importance that both Japan and Viet Nam attach to the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) and Green Transformation (GX), both sides agreed to inargurate an AZEC/GX Promotion Working Team as a framework for local discussions between the Japanese public and private sectors, and the Vietnamese government, led by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, etc. regarding the promotion of green growth and energy transition in Viet Nam.
After the launch of AZEC by the Ministerial Conference in March of this year, Viet Nam is the first country where an agreement was reached to launch a framework for consultation between the Japanese public and private sectors, including Japanese companies, and the government of the partner country.
At the meeting, Japan and Viet Nam held discussions on future approaches to advancing the AZEC/GX Promotion Working Team, including the possibility of positioning the team as one of the working groups under the “Japan-Viet Nam Joint Initiative,” which is a framework for dialogues in which Japan and Viet Nam hold comprehensive discussions on improving the investment environment in Viet Nam.
Going forward, Japan will strive to contribute to decarbonization in Asia through policy harmonization and support, working together with Viet Nam and other AZEC partner countries.
