Minister Nishimura Holds Meeting with H.E. Mr. Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar

On Friday, August 11, Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Madagascar, and held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar. This was the first time that a METI Minister of Japan had ever visited Madagascar.
At the meeting, the two ministers agreed to advance cooperation in a wide range of fields including securing critical minerals, with special emphasis on the Ambatovy Project, which is a mining project to produce nickel, toward building a win-win relationship between the two countries.

On Friday, August 11, Mr. Nishimura, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Madagascar and held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar. This was the first time that a METI Minister of Japan had ever visited Madagascar. Also present at the meeting were H.E. Mr. Yvette Sylla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Olivier Rakotomalala, Minister of Mines and Strategic Resources, H.E. Mr. Andrieux Ramampanoharama, Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, H.E. Mr. Rakotoarisoa Indriamanga, Vice Minister of the Office of Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Ondja Miandri Rakotondramanana, Vice Minister of Industry, Trade and Consumer Affairs.

At the meeting, the two ministers agreed to advance cooperation in a wide range of fields including minerals, with special emphasis on the Ambatovy Project, one of the largest mining investment projects in Africa, which produces minerals such as nickel with Japanese equity participation, and the project to expand the port of Toamashina, which is the loading port for the Ambatovy Project. They agreed to create a win-win situation through cooperation in those projects and develop a good relationship between the two countries in the medium to long term.
