The summary statement, a compilation of messages delivered at speeches and panel discussions by the government, industry, and academic sectors in member countries, pointed out that carbon recycled fuels, including e-fuel and e-methane, will play an important role in achieving carbon neutrality and that it is necessary to build a system for measuring and evaluating the environmental value of carbon recycling in order to further create a global market for carbon-recycled products. It also confirmed that collaboration among the government, industry, and academic sectors, and inter-company and inter-regional collaboration, have the potential to encourage carbon recycling efforts by companies, including startups, and that the efforts by Hiroshima Prefecture and the R&D and Demonstration Base for Carbon Recycling at Osaki-Kamijima will play an important role in the social implementation of carbon recycling.
Moreover, the conference compiled and released a Progress Report describing the progress made in Japan’s efforts over the last year for the social implementation of carbon recycling, including the incorporation of CCUS, carbon recycling, and other types of carbon management in the communiqué agreed upon at the G7 meeting and the formulation of the Carbon Recycling Roadmap. Japan will strive to fortify international collaboration and accelerate efforts to encourage the widespread adoption of carbon recycling.
