Third International Conference on Fuel Ammonia Held

On September 29 (Fri.), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Clean Fuel Ammonia Association (CFAA) held the Third International Conference on Fuel Ammonia (ICFA2023) as a Japan-led platform, with participation from representatives from industry and international organizations. It was attended by more than 1300 people from 9 countries.
At this conference, the following points were discussed related to the potential and future prospects of ammonia toward decarbonization: (1) its contribution to low carbon emissions through various applications in a wide range of industries such as ship transportation and industrial furnaces, (2) the need to establish a stable, low-cost, and flexible fuel ammonia supply chain and market, (3) support to expand the supply of fuel ammonia.

3. Outcomes
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Japanese and Swiss companies concerning investigation into a new clean ammonia production study in Louisiana, U.S.A.
- A summary statement of the conference was released, with a view to low carbon emissions through various applications in a wide range of industries such as ship transportation and industrial furnaces, establishment a stable, low-cost, and flexible fuel ammonia supply chain and market, the support to expand the supply of fuel ammonia.
