Launch of Level 4 System Mobility Acceleration Committee for Realization of New Automated Driving Mobility Services by FY2025

October 19, 2023

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will launch a Level 4 System Mobility Acceleration Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and other organizations in order to develop environments for the realization of new automated driving mobility services by FY2025.

1. Purpose of the inauguration

The Government of Japan is aiming to realize driverless automated driving services in about 50 locations across Japan by around FY2025. Going forward, it is expected that new automated mobility services will start in larger and more complex traffic environments. Against this backdrop, developing environments for facilitating appropriate information sharing and other actions among businesses and the related ministries and agencies will be necessary as an effort to quickly bring such services into being.

From this viewpoint, METI and MLIT decided to newly launch the Level 4 System Mobility Acceleration Committee under the RoAD to the L4 project that the ministries have been advancing for developing and implementing automated driving.

Expected agendas of the committee

Note: Meetings may or may not be open to the public depending on their content.

Expected members of the committee

2. Schedule

The committee is scheduled to start meetings around November 2023.

3. Upcoming agenda
