METI Minister Nishimura Receives Courtesy Call from Chair Yasunaga, Japan-Brazil Economic Committee, Keidanren

On October 25 (Wed.), 2023, Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from Mr. Yasunaga Tatsuo, Chair, Japan-Brazil Economic Committee, Keidanren (Representative Director and Chair of the Board of Directors, Mitsui & Co., Ltd.).

At the beginning of the call, Chair Yasunaga handed to Minister Nishimura the Joint Statement on the Promotion of Japan-Brazil Economic Relations, a document adopted at the meeting of the Japan-Brazil Economic Committee jointly held by Keidanren and the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In response, Minister Nishimura expressed his appreciation not only for the concrete proposals from the industrial players of Japan and Brazil for the development of economic ties in Mercosur, but also for the Japanese companies that have developed business in Brazil and contributed to the enhancement of economic ties between the two countries.

Concerning ideal approaches to enhancing economic ties with Mercosur, Minister Nishimura stated that Japan intends to continue discussions in collaboration with related ministries and agencies while sincerely listening opinions in Japan. Moreover, referring to the fact that Brazil will be the G20 chair country in 2024, the two sides exchanged views on future efforts to make this a great opportunity to enhance Japan-Brazil economic ties.
