Minister Saito Pays Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Chinh of Viet Nam

On December 14th and 15th, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Office of the United States Trade Representative held the fourth round of meetings of the Japan-U.S. Partnership on Trade. They discussed topics such as digital, critical minerals supply chain, trade practices of third countries, labor, and multilateral cooperation from the viewpoint of strengthening the Japan-U.S. trade cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region as well as their cooperation on global agenda. 

1. Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Chinh of Viet Nam

During the courtesy call, it was noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, as well as the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. Discussions were held on co-creation of economic relations between the two countries, including the creation of future industries such as clean energy, digital technology, semiconductors, next-generation automobiles, and next-generation medical care, as well as human resource development, realization of carbon neutrality, and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC).

2. Attendance at the Japan-Viet Nam Economic Forum

Minister Saito attended the Japan-Viet Nam Economic Forum along with Prime Minister Chinh and gave the opening remarks. In his speech, he stated that Viet Nam is a reliable comprehensive and strategic partner, and considering the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the concept for the next 50 years is co-creation. He expressed the intention to promote cooperation in the creation of future industries, decarbonization, and human resources between the two countries.
