GX Dashboard on the GX League Official Website Opens and Emission Reduction Targets and Other Information by Participating Companies Published
January 16, 2024
On February 1, 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) released the “GX League Basic Concept,” and the GX League was launched in FY2023. METI hereby announces that the GX League has opened the “GX Dashboard” on its official website and published the current situation of participating companies’ efforts, including the emissions reduction targets that these companies have set. The GX League will strive to drive Japan’s GX (green transformation) by working as a framework covering over 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Japan.
1. Outline of the GX League
The GX League is a framework in which a group of internationally competitive companies that are boldly taking on the challenge of transitioning to carbon neutrality will drive GX. Currently, 568 companies have participated in the league.
These companies have been making significant efforts to reduce emissions, upholding their own targets of emission reductions not only for FY2030 but also for FY2025, and have also decided to participate in an emissions trading system on a trial basis. Moreover, active discussions on rulemaking which is hard to be undertaken by individual companies have been conducted on areas such as emissions reductions on the supply chain and the input of GX products into the market.
2. Outline of the GX Dashboard
The GX League has opened its “GX Dashboard” on its official website as a platform for information disclosure by GX League participating companies, including emission reduction targets and efforts for emission reductions involving supply chains. The dashboard publicizes these companies’ targets of emission reductions and their efforts for emission reductions in their supply chains. From FY2025 onward, data such as the amount of reduced emissions that participating companies have achieved will be released.
The total direct emissions of the companies that have submitted relevant data account for over 50% of the GHG emissions in Japan in FY 2021, and the total direct emission reductions for FY2025 and FY2030 of their targets combined are 620 million tons and 480 million tons, respectively. The GX League will update the dashboard monthly to post additional information on the emissions of companies which have not submitted data yet.
3. Opening a call for new participants from FY2024 in the middle of the first phase
The GX League has opened a call for companies that intend to participate in the league from FY2024 in the middle of the first phase. For details, visit the special webpage on the GX League official website.
This call (for FY2024 participants) is the final one in the first phase (from FY2023 to FY2025). No call for FY2025 is scheduled.
