METI Minister Saito Receives Courtesy Call from Chairman of the India-Japan Business Co-operation Committee and Chairman of the Japan-India Business Co-operation Committee

On March 12 (Tue.), 2024, Mr. Saito Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from a mission led by Mr. Onkar S. Kanwar, Chairman, India-Japan Business Co-operation Committee (IJBCC), and Mr. Yasunaga Tatsuo, Chairman, Japan-India Business Co-operation Committee (JIBCC). While confirming the progress made in the ongoing Japan-India economic ties, the two sides exchanged views on future directions of cooperation to further expand those ties.
Minister Saito received a courtesy call from IJBCC Chairman Kanwar, who visited Japan to attend the 47th Joint Meeting of the IJBCC and JIBCC, and JIBCC Chairman Yasunaga.
A series of Joint Meetings of the India-Japan and Japan-India Business Co-operation Committees has been held every year alternately in Japan and India, aiming to promote mutual understanding and friendship and enrich relationships between the business communities in Japan and India. This year, the 47th Joint Meeting will be held under the theme of “Expanding economic cooperation between Japan and India for a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)’.”
During the courtesy call, while confirming the favorable bilateral relationships that Japan and India have built, the two sides affirmed that Japan and India will expand cooperation also in multilateral areas, including the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) and the QUAD framework. In addition, they confirmed that Japan will accelerate cooperation with India, a country with potential for housing hubs in the manufacturing industry, and that Japan and India will endeavor to enhance Japan-India economic collaboration in both the government sector and the private sector.
