Japan-U.S.-ROK Export Control Enforcement Meeting Held

On Thursday, April 25, the Japan-U.S.-ROK Export Control Enforcement Meeting was held in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
The first Japan-U.S.-ROK Export Control Enforcement Meeting was held in Washington, D.C., under the Disruptive Technology Protection Network agreed upon at the August 2023 U.S.-Japan-ROK Summit Meeting at Camp David. The Export Control Enforcement Meeting was attended by Mr. Igari Katsuro, Director General of the Trade Control Department of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), representatives from the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Finance from Japan; Assistant Attorney General Mr. Matthew G. Olsen and Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Mr. Matthew S. Axelrod from the U.S.; and Mr. Kim Hyeon-wook, Secretary to the President of the ROK for Economic Security; Mr. Kwon SoonJeong, Deputy Minister of Justice, Head of the Prosecution Service Bureau; and Mr. Choi Woohyuk, Director General for the Bureau of Trade Controls Policy at the the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy(MOTIE) from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
At the meeting, the three countries shared the recognition that addressing illicit technology transfer is an important national and economic security issue, agreed to share information and further strengthen cooperation among the enforcement agencies of the three countries, and signed two Memoranda of Intent (MOI).
