Second Meeting of the Japan-China Export Control Dialogue and Japan-China Joint Outreach Event Held

On May 27 and 28, 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the second meeting of the Japan-China Export Control Dialogue and a Japan-China joint outreach event in Shanghai with the Bureau of Industry, Security, Import and Export Control, Ministry of Commerce, the People’s Republic of China.

On May 27, 2024, METI held the second meeting of the Japan-China Export Control Dialogue in Shanghai with the Bureau of Industry, Security, Import and Export Control, Ministry of Commerce, China. The dialogue was co-chaired by Mr. Igari Katsuro, Director-General, Trade Control Department, and Mr. Jiang Qian Liang, Director-General, Bureau of Industry, Security, Import and Export Control, Ministry of Commerce.

In the dialogue, the two sides discussed matters of interest for both countries regarding export controls.

In addition, on the following day, May 28, METI held a Japan-China joint outreach event with the Ministry of Commerce of China.

At the event, the governments of Japan and China introduced their export control systems to participating Japanese and Chinese companies, etc., and answered questions from representatives of the participants on matters of concern to them.

The two countries will maintain close communication to deepen their understanding of each other's export control systems, enhance transparency of export control measures, and ensure that normal trade is not impeded.

The establishment of the Japan-China Export Control Dialogue was agreed upon at the meeting held in November 2023 between the former METI Minister Nishimura and H.E. Mr. Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce of China. The first meeting was held in Tokyo in January 2024.
